Modern Chairs
Here are just a few examples of modern foldable chairs that I have sourced from the internet displaying modern seating. Although, the chair needs to be sympathetic with the church I think it is useful to look at these examples because I could always use the concept and translate it into more of a traditional church chair. I have also selected these chairs because they fold down neatly and compact.
Both these chairs use the same kind of concepts in terms of how they fold away. The materials used look clean and the above example makes the chair appear really shiny. Although, they do not have the same kind of generic shape as other chairs i.e having four legs they do look very sturdy.
If this was made out of wood it would possibly need some sort of components to help it fold - hinges perhaps but then this could perhaps hinder the aesthetics of the design. I know this would not be suitable for the brief, but the idea of it folding away so neatly and compact is a really good option to consider. The church wants to save space so it is important to think about how and where these chairs will be folded and stored.

I really like the look of this design. It is very modern, slick and looks appealing. The shape is unusual looking which makes it look really inviting for me as a user. What is quite unique about this product is the shape of it, and the way it folds and stacks. Although, I know that this style is not really appropriate for the church it is interesting to have a look and make note of the functionality of the design.
I know that this is just a picture so it is unclear to determine how high these chairs actually are, but if the church is buying in bulk then they need to be able to stack many chairs without taking up a lot of space or height.
I do really like the idea of the back of the chair folding over into a shell shape so this is something I may come back to at a later date whilst experimenting with my initial ideas. Also the legs seem to stick out in order for them to stack so this is another design aspect that I need to consider.
